An ambitious light and sound show signaled the opening of the popular local beer festival, “Oktoberfest.”
Sponsored by beer giant, San Miguel Brewery Incorporated, the festivities were held Sept. 10 at the Mall of Asia concert grounds.
Several bands including The Bloom Brothers, The Dawn, Freestyle, Slapshock, Gloc-9 and Parokya ni Edgar joined the celebration, which many Filipinos await with bated breath yearly.
“I always enjoy performing in these kinds of concerts. The crowd is just so into it and I get to enjoy lots of beer, too,” said The Dawn vocalist, Jet Pangan.
Fans at the site enjoyed the free-flowing beer served at discounted rates. All of San Miguel’s winning beer brands--including the limited edition San Miguel “Oktobrew,” the first-ever all-malt, low alcohol beer served around these parts--were made available to all who queued at the venue.
More, fans were thrilled at the sight of the light and sound extravaganza projected on the facade of event co-sponsor Microtel.
“Kakaiba naman ito, parang New Year,” said one fan.
“Daig pa ang New Year,” contended another.
SMB president Roberto N. Huang led the ceremonial toast together with officials from the Department of Tourism and the Pasay City Mayor’s Office.
Among the well-wishers sighted at the event were celebrity couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.
Also sighted partying at the event were the SMB basketball stars together with models Georgina Wilson and Isabel Daza.
San Miguel’s “Oktoberfest” will continue until end of the month, with SMB launching a number of concerts and promos to coincide with the festivities. These include the “On-The-House Raids,” which allows for special prizes to lucky winners who will be spotted with a case of San Miguel in their homes.
Another is the “Tansankatutak” promo, which allows for collectibles to be exchanged for San Miguel beer crowns. -Manila Bulletin
